Why visualize disk usage?
Apple's Storage settings provide a useful category chart and built-in recommendations. A folder-level map answers a different question: which path is taking space? It helps you inspect a video export, developer directory, or application support folder in context. See Apple's Storage settings guide.
A practical visual investigation
- Check available space in System Settings → General → Storage.
- Choose the folder or readable volume you want to inspect in Klyr Disk.
- Follow the largest branches of the storage map, then inspect individual files and paths.
- Compare large files with your projects, libraries, and backups.
- Select an understood item only after confirming it is no longer needed.
Know what the map cannot show
A directory tree is not the same as APFS volume accounting. Snapshots, clones, purgeable space, protected locations, and cloud placeholders can explain a difference from the macOS total. Klyr marks a scan as partial or access-limited when it cannot read the requested scope. Read how the measurement works.
What makes Klyr useful here?
It combines an explorable storage hierarchy with large-file review and exact duplicate detection. Scans remain on your Mac. Items move to macOS Trash only when you explicitly select them; the app does not infer that a large square or folder is safe to remove.
